Spruill’s story originates with a group of women who wanted to bring art into their community. They formed an art group, painting together at local church and volunteering their time to bring art activities to a growing number of people. These dedicated volunteers began what is now the Spruill Center for the Arts. They became known as the Spruill Arts Guild, and, for many years, devoted their time to supporting the center through fundraising and hospitality, most notably producing Spruill’s largest fundraiser — Artistic Affair.
Although the Spruill Arts Guild no longer exists, many of its members remain our strongest volunteers. As the Spruill Center enters a new era of growth, we reflect on the Guild’s patronage and what it has meant to us as we recruit new volunteers that will help us move into the future. Today, our volunteers are of all ages and walks of life – individuals from the Spruill Guild, young professionals, teenagers, nonprofit groups, civic organizations, corporations, retirees, and more. As a nonprofit community arts center, we are at our best when a strong volunteer force supports our efforts.
We are always looking for volunteers. No matter your experience or talent, we welcome and need you. If you or your group are looking for a rewarding and fun volunteer experience, contact us by completing the volunteer form or by emailing us.
